About Serantes Coastal Park

Serantes Coastal Park (Parque Natural do Monte Serantes) is located near the city of Ferrol in the province of A Coruña, Galicia, along Spain’s northern Atlantic coast. This coastal park centers around Monte Serantes, a prominent granite mountain rising about 438 meters (1,437 feet) high, overlooking the Ría de Ferrol estuary and the Cantabric Sea. The area encompasses rugged cliffs, Mediterranean and Atlantic-influenced vegetation, and protected wildlife habitats that reflect the unique transition zone between Atlantic and European ecosystems. Ecologically, the park supports species such as seabirds, small mammals, and endemic plants adapted to coastal and mountainous conditions. Historics remnants including old watchtowers and defense installations illustrate the park’s longstanding strategic importance guarding access to the naval port city of Ferrol. Visitors are drawn to Serantes Coastal Park for its hiking trails offering coastal and panoramic mountain views, birdwatching spots, and opportunities for photography and nature observation. The trails range from moderate ascents to summit routes that reward visitors with sweeping vistas of the sea, estuaries, and nearby inland forests. The park’s proximity to urban centers makes it a popular day-trip destination while preserving tranquil natural experiences. Its blend of maritime, geological, and cultural features provide a multifaceted outdoor destination appealing to hikers, naturalists, and history enthusiasts alike.
